- History
The Egyptians were known for making perfumes from plants and flowers, and the first civilizations crushed and infused plants in water or oil to make perfume. The Mughal empire spread the use of attar in India, and the emperor Akbar established a ministry to develop perfumes.
- Production
Attar is made with vegetable oils, like sandalwood or olive oil, and is traditionally created without alcohol. The process of making attar is carried out in copper stills called “Degs”.
